DOT Drug Screen Process

All DOT drug screens will be sent to a laboratory certified by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The non-regulated drug screens (five- and 11-panel) will be examined through a quick test device. A specimen with an initial positive result will be sent for further screening through a process called a confirmation test. Once this process has been completed, the laboratory will then submit a final report.

In most cases, a drug test result accomplished by the laboratory will be sent to a Medical Review Officer (MRO) for verification. In the event of a positive result, the MRO will attempt to contact and interview the donor to determine if there is any lawful or legitimate reason why illegal or prescription drug is present in the specimen and the donor’s system. This process takes approximately 48 to 72 hours.

  • Opiates
  • Phencyclidine (PCP)

11-Panel Test for:

Alere eScreen

Automated management program for drug screen collection.  A paperless chain of custody, rapid screening and laboratory-based drug testing.  Employers have the ability to go on-line and see negative results in approximately 20 minutes.

Hair Follicle Drug Test

Drugs can stay in hair. Detection is dependent on the length of hair submitted for testing. A standard hair test requires:

  • 1 ½ in. for 90 days
  • 1 in. for 60 days
  • ½ in. for 30 days

Nail Follicle Drug Test
Convergence Solutions Laboratory does nail follicle testing!
A NAIL FOLLICLE test detects drug use within a 6-month period.  Because fingernails and toenails cannot be tampered with, the nail drug test ensures accurate results that are non-invasive.  The detection window is affected by the rate of nail growth which varies from person to person.  The nail test is appropriate if the test subject does not have the length of hair needed for the hair drug test.

Breath Alcohol Test (BAT)

Federal government-required alcohol testing allows only the use of devices approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These devices can either be saliva or breath. BAT is the most common method of determining blood alcohol content in the workplace. This is the test CSL recommends.
